Raising Awareness

In 2006 our trustees supported the establishment of China’s first independent radio production centre, run for and by the visually impaired community. Our project ‘CRPD Lives’, through which we supported disabled people across China to tell their own stories in the light of the UN Convention, led to the roll-out of ‘Disability Voice Month’ by DPOs in China in 2013. This has given many disabled people a chance to engage in wider social discourse.

Promoting Social Equity

Today, ABB is supporting our partners in China and beyond, in the belief that shared voice and self-advocacy can empower disabled people and their communities to raise awareness of disability and promote social equity.

Recent activities include:

– Hosting a two-day international conference for practioner researchers and activists

    Children playing in playground

From our partners…

“ABB and China Vision have been my friends and most trusted partners for many years. I believe that without their cooperation over the past ten years, we would not have gained the concepts and international perspectives of disability that we have now, nor would we be able to work effectively in the disability sector or have the organisation we now run. Over the past decade, our DPO has carried out many activities based on the needs of the disabled communities in China. China Vision and ABB have always provided support, including training, international exchange and other resources, according to the needs of our work. Respect for difference, independent living and human rights perspectives intrinsic to international projects have had a profound influence on us and have become the basis of our work. Based on these ideas, we have done some ground-breaking work in the field of disability in China, and have been widely recognized by people with disabilities, government officials and other stakeholders. We are proud to combine progressive concepts of disability with the actual conditions faced by disabled people. We are grateful to China Vision and ABB for laying a solid foundation for our work.”
